Queen Street is the main strip in downtown Niagara on the Lake. Running parallel to the shore of Lake Ontario, the street is home to many shops and restaurants and is the main attraction of the town during tourist season.
You will find no shortage of shopping once you hit the main street. Whether you’re looking for a unique hat at Beau Chapeau, a swimsuit at Versions, or a scarf at Irish Design, it’s all right there. One of the more unique stores is Maple Leaf Fudge. They are able to satisfy anyone’s sweet tooth with a wide variety of fudge and other sweets for sale. Just Christmas is another popular store that only carries Christmas themed merchandise. Everything from decorations to tree ornaments painted with your name can be found at this nifty store.
Dining on the main street will give you plenty of options. Fine dining, bistro, and pub fare are all readily available on Queen Street. Since walking the entire length of the road only takes about 10 minutes, your best choice may be to take a stroll and poke your head into each restaurant you pass to see what is the most appealing to you. With the variety of establishments, there is something for everybody.
Desert is also readily available. The Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory will cover just about anything in chocolate for a tasty treat. One of the ice cream parlours in town, COWS, is the only store of its kind in Ontario. The store has its roots in Prince Edward Island and is the only outlet in our province.
On the west end of Queen Street, you will find the Niagara on the Lake Golf Club. Built in 1875, it is the oldest existing golf club in North America. The course features 9 holes and lies adjacent to Lake Ontario. Many a golfer has lost a ball into that large water hazard’s unforgiving depths.
Finally, the east end of the street has Simcoe Park. While a pleasant place for an evening stroll, the park is also home to the odd skunk during the evening. Be on the lookout for those striped critters in the summertime.
Queen Street is the heart of Niagara on the Lake with the shopping and dining all in one place. If you are visiting the town, you cannot miss out on walking our main street and we hope this guide help get you started.
